FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE THE ACTRA AWARDS IN TORONTO – 2008 NOMINEES ANNOUNCED Toronto, January 10, 2008 – ACTRA Toronto is pleased to announce the nominees for the 2008 ACTRA Awards in Toronto, to be presented at The Carlu on February 29, 2008. This year’s ACTRA Toronto 2008 Award of Excellence will be presented to Eric Peterson. There will also be three juried ACTRA Awards presented at the event in the categories of Outstanding Voice Performance, Outstanding Female Performance and Outstanding Male Performance. ACTRA Award for Outstanding Performance – Voice: ACTRA Award for Outstanding Performance – Female: ACTRA Award for Outstanding Performance – Male: “The ACTRA Awards in Toronto are an important opportunity for us to showcase the depth and quality of Canadian talent,” said Karl Pruner, president of ACTRA Toronto. “The impressive performances by all of the nominees deserve to be celebrated, not only by their fellow entertainers, but by the public as well.” Eric Peterson of Corner Gas, This is Wonderland, Street Legal will receive ACTRA Toronto’s 2008 Award of Excellence. The award recognizes outstanding performances by Toronto members and also celebrates the accomplishments and excellence of these individuals within our industry. “Eric is a talented performer whose body of work has enormously contributed to the vitality of Canadian culture. He is a tireless campaigner in the struggle to protect and promote our culture from being eroded by outside interests,” added Pruner. The Awards Gala will be hosted by Colin Mochrie of Are You Smarter Than a Canadian Fifth Grader? Who’s Line is it Anyway? Paul Constable is the show’s scriptwriter. The program will feature a performance by ACTRA Toronto member and singer Kathryn Rose. The sculptor of the award statuette is Adrienne Alison. ACTRA Toronto is the largest organization within ACTRA, representing over 11,000 of Canada’s 21,000 professional performers working in the English-language recorded media in Canada. As an advocate for Canadian culture since 1943, ACTRA is a member-driven organization that continues to secure the rights and respect for the work of professional performers.
