ACTRA TORONTO PERFORMERS MEMBERS’ CONFERENCE A BIG SUCCESS

ACTRA Toronto Performers Members’ Conference on Saturday, November 15 at U of T’s Victoria College and the Isabel Bader Theatre was a big success. The attendance exceeded expectations and the workshops generated lively discussions.

Keynote speaker Laszlo Barna (DaVinci's Inquest, Blue Murder) one of the strongest forces today in the development and production of Canadian dramatic television, spoke on the importance of keeping the Canadian television drama crisis on the national agenda. His speech was entitled Dramatic Dreams: Working Together to Fix Canadian Drama. Mr. Barna’s speech included praise for ACTRA’s action in fighting for Canadian TV drama.

The morning and afternoon offered five workshops to choose from including a session on Self Marketing, U.S. Accents, a discussion on Canada’s TV drama crisis, a comedy master class, a master series with Sheila McCarthy, two sessions on auditions, the dos and don’ts of pitching projects the film and television industry and morning and afternoon screenings of short films made under the Toronto Indie Production (TIP) agreement. Panelists included ACTRA Toronto members Melissa DiMarco, Lyn Mason Green, Raoul Bhaneja, Jessica Holmes, Wayne Robson, Teresa Pavlinek, directors Eddy Chu and Miguel Gallego, casting directors Kim Everest, Brian Levy, Juli-Ann Kay and Lisa Parasyn, producers Laszlo Barna, Mary Kahn, and agency producer Andrew Schulze -- some of Canada’s most eminent and respected actors, writers, casting directors, agents, directors, and producers. These conferences are a chance for actors to share and build upon the experiences of fellow professional actors.
