How much does stuff cost?
(from the EIC's pamphlet about finding an ethical agent)
Principal agents represent you if you're an actor accustomed to getting speaking roles. They charge commission on your gross earnings (15% for film and television work; 10% for live theatre) and may ask you to cover small costs like courier fees. Principal agents do not charge registration fees.
Background agents represent people who work as extras. They charge a 15% commission on your gross earnings and if you are not an ACTRA member, they charge a registration fee (less than $100), which will be deducted, from your first paycheque.
Other average fees you can expect to pay are:
Actor headshot photos $175 - 250
(black and white)
Photo reproductions $150 - $200
(for 100 8x10 glossies)
Resumes provided free by agent
Acting classes $10-$20 hour
Demo Tapes $200 and up
