Join us for breakfast with Order of Canada recipient and celebrated actress,
Tantoo Cardinal. She has advanced Aboriginal performing arts throughout
the world. Known for her authenticity, she has brought to life complex and
diverse Aboriginal characters and has worked to dispel stereotypes. Tantoo
is a leader in the drive for Canadian content. Come and be inspired by this
brilliant Canadian star who has international recognition for her activism and
artistry.
Tantoo Cardinal's honours include a National Aboriginal Achievement award, the
Harvard University Sunhill Award for excellence in Aboriginal filmmaking and
four honourary doctorates.Her 80-plus credits include North of 60, Shattered,
Legends of the Fall, Dances With Wolves, Black Robe, Loyalties, Education of
Little Tree, Luna, Spirit of the Whale, Unnatural & Accidental, Sioux City, Silent

24 HOUR CO-OP CHALLENGE
All-day session!
Did you know you can make your own movie under the ACTRA Co-op Agreement? Steward Barbara Larose will take you through all the steps and guidelines. You can come to the workshop with your own team in place (they all must be ACTRA members), or we will assign you to a co-op group. You'll be given a theme and the rest of the day to plan, shoot and edit your movie. One film will be shown at the Plenary. Submit your photo and a resume including any directing, writing or editing experience you (and anyone on your team) might have. Let us know if you will be bringing camera equipment or intend to just use your iPhone. Hosted by Sarah Michelle Brown.

Join Amanda Parker, CEO of the social media management company Aha Moment Media, as she demonstrates how to market yourself on social media efficiently. Bring your laptops if you have them!

Part 1: Performance and Motion Capture
UPDATED Get ready for a two-part Gaming workshop where we get to delve into the minds of the industry's hottest voice and motion capture performers. Join our host Suzanne Coy and guests Amber Goldfarb (Assassin's Creed: Liberation), Michael Mando (Far Cry 3), Elias Toufexis (Splinter Cell, Deus Ex), Susan Hart (Dino Crisis, Resident Evil, The Cat in The Hat) and Neil Napier (Assassin's Creed) as they reveal the mysteries of an industry that all actors are itching to be a part of. Get the inside scoop from preparation to auditioning and from booking to kicking ass, as well as a mock voice recording session with a guest voice director and member participation that you won't want to miss.

This practical session will help you prepare for tax season, as Alexander J. Anastasopoulos of Entertainment Tax Services dispels common tax myths for entertainers, explains how the government views your income and expenses, and provides key information about deductions, tax-planning strategies, and simple guidelines to help you organize all those receipts. Memory tips & techniques for learning sides quickly.
Audition sides arrive at 5 p.m. for noon tomorrow. Now the "I have to learn
these lines" panic sets in. Lynne Cormack, creator of "THE AUDITION LAB"
teaches you valuable tools on how to absorb text quickly while exploring the
emotional life of the scene when under the pressure of the "audition clock!
Lynne Cormack has been a working actor in theatre, film & television for over
30 years. She is also the creator of "THE AUDITION LAB," a workshop designed
to de-mystify the audition process. She has taught for The National
Theatre School, the Canadian Film Centre and the Directors Guild of Canada.

NEUTRALIZING YOUR CANADIAN ACCENT, EH
Will you be going out tonight? Will you be going route tonight? A typo? Not so fast. Join moderator Barbara Gordon as she welcomes renowned, fun dialect coach John Fleming (johnfleming.ca). John will guide pre-selected ACTRA members on how to best "neutralize" their Canadian accents for film/television. Through the use of audition sides and exercises, John will not only expose you to some tips and tricks he'll set you "about" on the "route".

1) INSIDE THE CUTTING ROOM
An interactive and in-depth discussion with editors Paul Day, C.C.E. (Hemlock Grove, Rookie Blue, Lost Girl, The Line) and Paul Skinner, who will give practical performance advice so your choices will work in the final cut. How should you change your performance for the wide vs. the closeup? What should you do during "Back to ones!" How to maintain continuity and eyelines? We'll discuss how you can help the editor by giving performance options that support the pace, rhythm, and timing of any scene... even while staying in the moment when you shoot.
2) BIG BREAK
What are we all working towards? The Big Break! But what's it like when you get it? Hear some of our best talk about their turning point moments, and have a chat with the folks who took a chance on them. Featuring Zoie Palmer, Jonas Chernick and Ted Atherton, as well as director Sean Garrity and others. Hosted by Karen Ivany.

Scripts and booties and burps. Oh my!
Is my career over if I become a parent? How can I afford to be an artist and have a kid? Join CBC's National Parenting columnist and acclaimed writer and actor Diane Flacks along with co-host and fellow writer/prominent actor/parent, Fabrizio Filippo, as they ask the big questions and discuss the ins and outs of being a parent and an artist with our panellists, renowned actors Maria Del Mar and Carlos Diaz who will share their experiences and insights, as well as Financial Advisor Colin Gregory Gies who will provide concrete tips and strategies. Expect entertaining anecdotes as well as practical financial advice and parental resources sure to help those considering juggling bottles and scripts down the road and for those who already are.

R.A.T.S. LIVE AGAIN!
ACTRA Awards Voice Nominees Workshop
Here's your chance to perform with this year's ACTRA voice nominees as
they recreate the golden age of R.A.T.S. (Radio Artists of Toronto Society)
reading a vintage radio play LIVE! ACTRA Toronto's forerunner R.A.T.S. was
formed 70 years ago to fight for the rights of radio actors. Parts will be cast
from the audience. Moderated by Catherine Disher.

PITCHING FOR T.V.
Toronto is a TV town and ACTRA members are expanding their talents, writing and producing for television. Join ACTRA members, Marvin Kaye (Less Than Kind), Shannon Jardine (Dust Up), and Kelly Fanson (More Than A Handful Productions) as they discuss their successful and not so successful pitches to cable and network decision-makers.

STUNTS: ACTOR ACTION
Script: "They fight." "She draws her gun and fires." "The punch knocks him to the ground." Yikes! Now what!? Stunt coordinators and performers Blair Johannes, Angelica Lisk-Hann and Ed Queffelec give us a hands-on look at how we actors work with stunts and stunt performers on set. Learn to use the camera angles to help sell that punch! Learn how to hold a gun like you know what you are doing! Learn how to protect yourself and your scene partner! ACTRA Toronto has some of the highest-calibre stunt professionals in the world – you've seen them on screen and on set. Now's your chance to learn from them.

We're celebrating the 10th anniversary of the TiP (Toronto Indie Production) Program! 2) DIGITAL AUDITIONS
How to Nail Self-Taped
and Skype Auditions
As technology makes the world smaller, Toronto actors have the ability to submit auditions happening in L.A., New York, Vancouver, and all over the world. Yet self-tape auditions (auditions sent digitally) or Skype auditions (auditioning via video conferencing) not only have technical details that actors need to be familiar with, they also require actors to self-direct in the absence of a casting director. Skyping in from L.A., renowned actor/coach Michael D. Cohen will coach actors on their taped auditions, assist them in being more self-sufficient in analyzing the quality of both their acting and the technical quality of the auditions, and relay feedback from interviews with L.A. and Toronto casting directors on their do's and don'ts. Hosted by Daniel Kash and Sedina Fiati.
