New department Director at ACTRA Toronto
People in ACTRA Toronto's staff welcomed Karl Pruner to the staff of ACTRA Toronto this week. Karl took up his position as Director of Membership, Communications and Organizing on Monday.
Karl brings a deep understanding of the art and craft of performance to his new position, having worked as a series regular, in film, in voice performance, and in commercials during a distinguished career as a performer. He is no stranger to the union issues he will be working on, having also served the members of ACTRA Toronto as an officer of ACTRA Toronto for more than six years. Karl was a key leader during several critical rounds of contract negotiations, including our historic 2007 IPA round. He is a great addition to our staff team at ACTRA Toronto.

In Theatres: The Trotsky
To say that Leon Bronstein (Jay Baruchel) isn't your average high school student would be a massive understatement. After all, not many would claim to be the reincarnation of early 20th century Soviet revolutionary leader, Leon Trotsky. Nor would they stage hunger strikes at their father's factory.
Determined to live out his destiny and change the world (or at least his school), on the way, Leon also falls in love with an 'older woman' named Alexandra (Emily Hampshire) – just as Trotsky himself had.
Director/writer Jacob Tierney brings on the humour and heart but explores notions ofsocietal apathy and boredom as the film progresses. The Trotsky made its world premiere at TIFF and has nabbed Audience Choice awards at festivals worldwide for its ability to both make audiences laugh and think.
DVD Club: The Baby Formula
During May and June, the DVD Club celebrates The Baby Formula.
The interactive DVD Club Blog will feature interviews withdirector Alison Reid and stars Megan Fahlenbock, Angela Vint and Rosemary Dunsmore (whose performance won her an ACTRA Award!)
The Montreal Gazette called The Baby Formula: "...funny, rueful, angry, absurd, hysterical, deadly serious, and entertaining as hell."
