SAG-AFTRA outlines their position here: https://www.sagaftrastrike.org/
If you are contracted to work on a project that continues production while SAG-AFTRA is on strike, you are legally obligated to continue working by your contract and the “no strike” clause (A901) in our collective bargaining agreement (IPA). You can continue to audition for work that is not an AMPTP-affiliated producer if you choose to do so.
Like most unions, ACTRA has a no-strike clause in the IPA, Article 901, that states:
“During the life of this Agreement, ACTRA undertakes not to call or direct a work stoppage against any Producer, except where the Producer has been declared unfair.”
ACTRA therefore advises its members to continue to work on ACTRA-signatory projects.
With SAG-AFTRA on strike, ACTRA encourages you to take part in any information picket lines that have been set up by SAG-AFTRA to show your solidarity. To avoid the risk of termination or lawsuits from employers, this should be done outside of your contracted work time. It is appropriate and encouraged to do so during unpaid breaks or on days off. Please like and share ACTRA Toronto’s social media posts in support of our sibling union and watch for updates on upcoming solidarity actions.
The affected productions will include new feature films, new scripted dramatic television and new scripted new media productions produced by AMPTP-represented employers and covered by the IPA.
If you are a dual member who resides in Canada and are engaged on a Canadian production, you may work on an ACTRA contract as per usual.
If you are a dual member whose primary residence is outside of Canada, and you are offered work in Canada, please contact SAG-AFTRA before accepting any booking. You can reach out to the SAG-AFTRA strike line at 877-878-7453 or email them at sagaftrastrike@sagaftra.org.
Performers working under an existing contract in Canada have a legal obligation to work and will not be asked by SAG-AFTRA to withhold services.
If you are a Canadian Producer who wants to engage a SAG-AFTRA member, including dual members who reside outside of Canada, please contact SAG-AFTRA.
You can inquire about the SAG-AFTRA Interim Agreement here: https://www.sagaftrastrike.org/interim-agreement
Canadian Producers that fall within the scope of the SAG-AFTRA strike order may apply for an interim agreement with SAG-AFTRA here: https://www.sagaftrastrike.org/interim-agreement
Such applications are vetted and reviewed by SAG-AFTRA, and ACTRA does not have any details on this process.
SAG-AFTRA has a list available here:
