CONFERENCE SESSIONS

Virtual Auditions: Zoom, self-tapes, and standards

Self-tapes are here to stay, and Zoom auditions are gaining in popularity. How do we as performers navigate this ‘new-normal’ successfully, and best present ourselves to casting?

This 90 min session, hosted by Apprentice Caucus Chair, Victoria Murdoch, features Casting Director Jesse Griffiths working with ACTRA Toronto member George Alevizos in a practice audition, and is followed by a Q & A with Jesse where you can get answers to those burning virtual audition questions. You’ll also see an informative presentation by ACTRA Industry Relations Specialists Jenn Paul & Taisa Dekker on the progress of the Auditions Standards Initiative. Grab a coffee, get your questions ready, and join us at 9 am to start your Fall Conference Day off right!

How to Be an Ally On and Off Set: Performers Working Together for Change

Join the ACTRA Diversity & Inclusion Committee for a discussion on how every performer can be an active ally to their peers who come from historically marginalized backgrounds. It isn’t always easy to know what to do or say, especially on set where there are inherent power structures and hierarchy – so let’s break that down together! Hosted by Co-Chairs Janet Rose Nguyen and Chattrisse Dolabaille, we invite you to join our panel featuring Tonjha Richardson, Em McCourt, Angelica Alejandro, Oscar Moreno, Marisa McDonald, and new ACTRA Special Advisor Maxine Bower* as we explore what it means to be an active ally and share and celebrate recent wins in our industry.
