The Ford Government is attacking union rights.

On October, 30th, Minister of Education Stephen Lecce announced the government’s intention to introduce legislation that would forcibly impose a concessionary contract on Ontario’s 55,000 education workers – even before bargaining has ended.

This is a full-frontal attack on free and fair collective bargaining in Ontario. It is an attempt to strip workers of their most powerful weapon –the right to strike–even before they get the chance to use it.

All Ontario union workers are affected by this decision and we must stand up to defend our rights.

The Canadian Union of Public Employees of Ontario (CUPE) and Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL) have already prepared the following actions:

  • An emergency rally in Toronto was held on Tuesday, November 1 at 5:00 p.m. at the Ministry of Labour.
  • Pickets starting on November 4, 2022 across Ontario. Find the picket nearest you. Simply enter your address in the picket finder tool.
  • An online email-your-MPP tool, in defense of free and fair collective bargaining.

We are facing a test of our resolve and of our commitment to the most fundamental principles of the labour movement. We cannot afford to fail. It is time to go on the offensive–and we all need to do it together.
